The end of '04

First and foremost, I would like to apologize for the lack of updates over the months. The last six months have been very interesting with too many events cramped in such limited time span. It is like seeing your life flash before your very eyes. The experience and knowledge I gain from the last six months were tremendous.

I sit and ponder upon the chain of events that happened and how those events affect the lives of people around me. Had one event fail to materialize, the outcome would be totally different... It could be for the better... or worst... all could change as easy as a flip of a penny. Six month ago, I would not have imagine myself as I am now... and not to mention where I am heading to at this very cross-junction of time.

From the plans that we have drawn out there are lot more things to explore and experience. We went against the grain and manage to elevate ourselves from zero to a platform that was accessible only to the big players. No doubt, we have ruffled some feathers in the playing field. Who knows, we might have created enemies along the way. Then again one might ask what would you do if all your enemies are friends...? what would you do?

The end of the year is near... it is a time for reflection. We should not look at the end of the year as it is but in fact we should take it as the beginning of a new year.

People ask about resolutions... what happened to last years resolutions and what are next year's resolutions. To me it doesn't matter. Resolutions evolve as time elapse. We should mould our resolutions to fit the situation and time. I can't wait to see what next year have in store for us.

some sort of a farewell note...

Tomorrow will be my last day at my current company... Before I hit the road i wrote a little farewell note to my collegues:

Dear Collegues,

Yes, this is going to be one of those farewell email whatchamacallitthingamagik but im going to keep it short and simple.
Alright now that I've got your attention. As you all know, 28th of May will be the day the volunteers walk the plank. I replied to the VSS offer and eventually the company graciously accepted my voluntary separation.

With that, I would like to thank everybody in this company who I have worked with, both directly and indirectly. Certainly our interactions have widen my experience and knowledge and I do hope the same goes to all of you. I would also like to wish you guys and the company all the best and goodluck.

I have no idea what to do at the moment, although there is an job opening somewhere in Timbuktoo that looked all too exciting for me to ignore. :p
Someone did suggest I enrolled for Malaysian Idol. But considering i would most probably end up the Malaysian version on William Hung, I think i'd rather go for the job in Timbuktoo. We'll see how it goes.

Thinking in black and white

It is funny when you have too many things to do... the world seemed to be black and white. You just see the stark difference, between day and night, liberal and orthodox, left and right, right and wrong.
Everything seemed to be in black and white... the moon over the night sky, recollection of the past, dreams, even the future. You can see the picture, but the details are blurred and fuzzy in shades of gray. You can have it in black and white, but the details are blurred and fuzzy in the fine print.
Colors fade but black and white stays.

Nursery rhymes

Ever wonder about the origins of nursery rhymes? Surprisingly, some originate from violent and bloody tales. 'Oranges and Lemons', is about prisoners "walking the green mile", 'three blind mice', is about Protestants being burned at the stake and 'Jack and Jill', is about Louis XVI and Marie Anoinette having their head chopped off by the guilotine.

And we sing these songs to babies. Preety scarry eh?

Chill out in december

It seems that the rain did not stop in November. It went on through December.

Rainy december nights. A few friends in a living room. Endless conversation. A couple of joints making rounds. Emporio Armani Cafe 1 in the background.

In the malaysian blog scene, a lot of bloggers have posted about the search for the 1st malaysian astronaut. Dinesh made a sneer in his post; "Sign up for the malaysian astronaut programme: Datukship included with light saber!" Suresh, Najah, hafizismail and auyongtc signed up immediately... not for the Datukship of course ;)
Sharizal then highlighted a few blogs doubting the initiative.

Najah's next post was some what of a flash back to me. Teachers do ask students about their ambitions and what do they want to be when they grow up. I think its in their manual somewhere.

Najah's primary teacher was somewhat pessimistic about her ambition to be either an astronaut or a prime minister or an economist. You cant blame her teacher. during those days, malaysia was still an agricultural nation. We are not exposed to information available. Heck, we only had RTM1, RTM2/TV Pendidikan. Even then transmission starts only at 5pm and ends at 12am. Space travel is something bizzare and out of this world. Its hard to be a jedi.
As for her teacher not having faith in her becoming prime minister, again she's being pessimistic about things. But you can't simply put the entire blame blame her, perhaps she doesn't like Margaret Tatcher, who was british PM during those days. Heck, even Uncle Sam dont have a female head of state (yet). But who knows 20-30 years down the road, we might have a female PM?

Pirates Ahoy!

I have a confession. I have a fetish for period movies. I enjoy watching the pompuous aristocracy in movies like Elizabeth and the Man in Iron Mask, the pretencious costumes in Rob Roy, Robin Hood and Vatel, the music and the drama in Amadeus and Immortal Beloved.

Movies of this 'genre' are targeted much towards the mature audiences, hence the storyline are based on drama rather than action or comedy. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl tend to change the trend by adding elements of humour in the movie. Afterall the movie was based on a theme ride in Disneyland, so the fun element have to be incorporated.

The story line is simple, bad guys kidnap girl, good guys hunt the bad guys. Ok not as straight forward as that but you get the drift. The cast handled their character well. Johnny Depp is the perfect actor for the witty and trippy Cap'n Jack Sparrow. I can't think of any other actor who could potray the wacky Jack Sparrow.
Orlando Bloom also played his character, Will Turner brilliantly. I tend to agree with Nizam Zakaria, there was not a hint of Legolas in Will Turner. Watch this dude out... he have proved himself worthy as an apprentice. He could be the next Jedi.
Finally, Kiera Knightley as the lovely Miss Swan... although she acted well, i kept on seeing her as the slimmer version of Kate Winslett... in 10 years time perhaps? then again, maybe it was the period costume.. ;)

The verdict, although there are some visible inconsistencies in the movie, i would give it a 5 star rating and two thumbs up. Brilliant acting and eye poping visual effects. A must see and a must in your DVD collection.

I remember when i was a kid way back 17 years ago in Lost Angeles. I was in Disneyland and managed to take the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. I could vividly remember as we ride into darkness, all you can hear was a steady flow of water. Suddenly a skull appeared on the arch above us, welcoming us and embracing us to the curse to the curse. The water flow seemed to be louder and louder. Then out of the sudden, we plunged down the dark abyss a midst the scream of horrified people, as the ride took twists and turns. Pirates and tresures flashed before our eyes. It was indeed one of the best rides in Disneyland. While watching Pirates of the Caribbean, I was transported back to 1986.

This is going to be one of those silly posts. The fact that my blog buddies dubbed me Don Juan de KaZ got me thinking and took me down the memory lane and revisit the list of women i fell for.

1. First crush - I guess it was in 1985/86, i was 11 or 12. The girl was the daughter of my mom's friend. She was my age. Nothing happened, I just liked her but i didn't tell her i liked her... After a few months, i lost interest.
2. The next one was in 1986/87. This girl is from the school next door. she was a prefect and i always bumped into her. One fine day, my sister came to me and said "Hey bro, that girl said hi...". I was more like stunned and told my sister "Yeah... send my regards to her". before anything could happen, she followed her family and moved to another state. pfffttt...
3. This is one shouldn't be in the entry but im gonna include her in the list as well. It's one of those secret admirer thinggy. . Just a few love letters. Thats it. Never knew the identity of the sender.
4. 1989/1990. Guess what... my sister's best friend. But again nothing serious.
5. Cute chinese girl in my tuition class. Just a crush, nothing more.
6. Another cute chinese girl in my tuition class. This one lasted about a year or so. We graduated high school and we just quit.
7. My classmate at university. Sweet girl. Pursued for quite a while but she got someone else in mind.
8. From an acquaintance to girlfriend. Preety girl studying in a local college. Then long distance relationship. Almost got married. It lasted six wonderful (and dreadful as well) years. I guess things are not meant to be. tsk, tsk...
9. Then I had a crush on my junior in university. We went out for a couple of months but thats it. Nothing serious.
10. I was doing my intern at a local utility company when i bumped into this very preety girl working there. She was one year older and just joined the company. Unfortunately, she was about to get married to her college sweetheart. d-oh!
11. One hot babelicious lady studying french at alliance francaise... A couple of years older. Unfortunately... she's married with kids... i think...
12. This time its the other way round. I was working in my old department and bumped into this intern. We went out a few times but that's it... we still keep in touch.
13. A colleague introduced me to this one... nothing much... we went out a few times. nothing more.
14. Again... was introduced by a collegue. Am going out with her now :)
15. Hot girl at the office. Just a crush.
16. Cute petite girl who happen to share the same dinner table with me. Just dinner. Didn't go far.
17. Preety girl i met at a talk. Sparked an interest but no explosion.
18. Hot babe i met during lunch... got her numéro de téléphone... nothing..... yet! ;)

Tripped on some, slipped on some and fell straight on-the-face on some. One pathetic Don eh?.. that should revoke the "Don" title off me... haha...
