Aiz bought a box of the selectos through the internet and he offered us a few cigars at a relatively affordable price. I opted to trade my Mouton Cadet No. 6 with two of the selectos.
The cigar had a slight boxed pressed effect, which gives it a slight squarish feel to it. It has a few flaws, the construction near the cap was rather soft, indicating a loosely rolled cigar. I also noticed a few spots on the cigar. perhaps mildew or some sort of fungus. Since the cigar came in a sealed cello wrapper, it might have already been here even before it left the factory.
The cigar was also quite dry. Since the area near the cap was soft, I didn't manage to get a clean cut. The cap sort of like crumble as i slice it with the guillotine cutter. I have to spit out pieces of tobacco every now and then while smoking.
Lighting the cigar was very, very easy. And you don't even have to put an effort to draw. Perhaps bacause it was dry. The smoke came in huge volume.
The smoke was cool and the aroma was pleasant.
The taste was light initially. Then half way through, there was a hint of grass an spice. The taste lingers on until the end.
Appearance and Presentation: 11/20
Lighting and Burning Properties: 15/15
Construction:15/30
Taste: 33/35
Total Score: 74/100
Remarks: The cigar tastes good. I like the spicy peppery taste at the end. The only flaw is the construction and presentation of the cigar, otherwise it will be a super duper. Fret not, perhaps this particular cigar was a lemon in the box. I will post an update on the second smoke.
I think a rating of 74 is about fair for the Selectos. It isn't a great smoke - but it is quite flavourful. A cigar is not just about its taste, its about everything else about it as well: the wrapper, the appearance, the burn, the aroma.
