Unforgiven

Raya Thots II

Eidul Fitri is about forgiving and rekindling relationships. However, sometimes it is easier said than done. Humans by nature are ugly creatures. They commit dispickable, wicked crimes toward each other.

Some acts are never meant to be forgiven. How could one look into the eyes, shook the hand and forgive a "friend", who took the opportunity to stab you the moment you turned the other way?

Like I said... its easier said than done.

"Hey Joe, where are you going with that gun in your hand?" Hey Joe, Jimi Hendrix

Remembering the dead

Raya Thots I

119_1905.jpgAmidst the festive raya mood, some muslims would take the initiative to visit cemetaries where their loved ones were laid to rest, to read a few surahs and duas.

The act is not compulsory in Islam. In fact some Muslim scholars even claimed that the act is actually bid'ah or a form of diversion. But it so happen that time is abundance while celebrating Eid, visiting relatives and friends whilst maintaining silatulrahim (extending ties of kinship) is a norm during Eid and it is only convenient and logical to "remember" the dead on that day.

Islam tought us that we cannot run away from death and there is life after death. We were also reminded to prepare ourselves for the journey there on, thus we should be thinking about death constantly.

Most of us lived our lives too comfortable as if we are going to live forever. When someone close to us die, we are often sad, taken a back and shaken towards the loss. Sometimes we need that to get our feet back on the ground. We must remember that life is short, death is absolute and we should balance our deeds for this world and hereafter. Which reminds me of a saying (or was it a hadith) that goes something like: "Work hard as if you are going to live for the next one thousand years and pray as if you are going to die tomorrow"

Joe Blogs

Passage: Johan Ismail of Joe Blogs
(At the time of this post, the link has been taken off as a gesture of respect especially to Joe's family)

Perhaps the most shocking news in Malaysia's blogscene, his passage will indeed be a great loss to the blog community not only in Malaysia but to the world as well. We will definitely miss his daily dose. My deepest condolences to Joe's Family.

Ina lillah wa ina ilaihi raji'un... (Qur'an, 2:156)
"To Allah we belong and to Him is our return"

Harun Yahya

With ramadhan just round the corner, a lot of programmes have been lined up. Besides religious programmes, knowledge programmes (majlis ilmu) have also been included in the line up.
This ramadhan, there will be a conference entitled Science Upholds Faith by Harun Yahya's Science Research Foundation. The conference will be organized by Qids Educational Foundation in co-operation with The Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM). There will be two sesssions; Science of the Creator and Truth Unvieled. The conference is open to the general public, non muslims included. Not quite an inter-religion discussion platform, but it will be an avenue for non muslims to learn more about Islam.

Counting one's blessing

As muslims, we believe God is watching over our every move, listening to our prayers and always test our faith. He is always there, even when you thought all hope is lost, when there are too many obstructions, when everything seemed impossible... God will the lift the burden and let you have his blessings (rezeki)

I was pitching for this particular job the last couple of weeks. It all seemed very vague and i was not really keen on pushing my luck. Then last week a midst my busy schedule preparing a tender, I got the green light to present the job. In less than a week, we are suppose to come out with four designs and a proposal. And the team need to review the proposal before the presentation.

I freaked out... i had to gather all resources to get the job done. On one side, the client is pushing. On the other, the tender closing date is just around the corner. There I was juggling in between jobs. Working late night and even on weekend. The presentation to the big shot was scheduled 30th September, 9 am. By sunday, we got half of our designs out of production. Monday morning another 3 designs came in. Now the presentation. The team wants to review it, my team will only be available at night. I had to ditch the review. No way i could give it to them in time.

While frantically doing the touching up the designs and preparing the presentation, I secretly wished that the presentation will be rescheduled to a later date. Hoping... and hoping. Out of the sudden, I received an SMS, the meeting was rescheduled half an hour earlier.

Last night, we met up at the office, finish up the presentation and touch up the presentation. We finished around 2am. The meeting venue was somewhere near Taman Tasik Perdana. I drove there in the morning, pick up my friend and head there. Half way through, I recieved another SMS, there were no projectors at the site, we have to source it else where. My collegue at the venue told me the nearest source was at Setiawangsa, half a world away with twenty five thousand cars in the way. I obliged, he thanked me and promised to stall the meeting.

My friend who was with me almost freaked out. I told him, "You know what, I think this is a test from God. We don't get a good deal for nothing" He smiled, and agreed. from the look on his face, i can hear him saying Alhamdulliah.

We managed to source out the projector and reach the venue about 40 minutes late. Indeed they have stalled the meeting, our portion were to be presented in about half an hour. Our turn came and we presented our lot. The bigshots liked them very much. We secured the project. Not only that, somehow rather, other opportunities came in.

Times like these, I looked back and remember a verse from the Holy Qur'an:
On no soul doth Allah Place a burden greater than it can bear. It gets every good that it earns, and it suffers every ill that it earns. (Pray:) "Our Lord! Condemn us not if we forget or fall into error; our Lord! Lay not on us a burden Like that which Thou didst lay on those before us; Our Lord! Lay not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Blot out our sins, and grant us forgiveness. Have mercy on us. Thou art our Protector; Help us against those who stand against faith." (Qur'an, II:286)
